Lego Rescue!

This week, in Science, we were set the task of saving Lego people and animals from blocks of ice. Our mission was to melt the ice as quickly as possible.

As a class, we came up with ideas about how we can melt ice. Each group picked a different way to melt the ice and we had ten minutes to melt the ice as much as possible to free the Lego.

Group A chose to use light to melt the ice, Group B chose to melt the ice with their hands, Group C chose to melt the ice on the radiator, Group D chose to melt the ice by wrapping it in paper towels and Group E chose to melt the ice by using boiling hot water.

Here are our results after 10 minutes.

The boiling hot water melted all the ice within 1 minute and freed the Lego man. We all agreed that when there was more heat, the ice melted much more quickly.
